Full Circle Farms cuts compost application from one week to one day

January 1, 2025

Client Snapshot

Full Circle Farm is a regenerative, no-till farm dedicated to producing the finest quality, healthiest, and most flavorful food possible. This commitment includes avoiding toxic chemicals and unnecessary plastic, continuously enhancing soil fertility, promoting biodiversity, and recognizing the invaluable contribution of team members and the local community.

The all-electric Amiga Compost Spreader powers this small farm’s regenerative system with precise, solar-driven compost application across beds, orchards, and pasture. It cut compost application labor by 78% while eliminating fuel costs, reducing physical strain, and freeing the team to focus on what matters most.

The challenge

While regenerative farming offers tremendous environmental benefits, it presents significant operational challenges, particularly for small-scale farmers. At Full Circle Farms, compost application formed the cornerstone of the soil fertility program, but the labor requirements were threatening the viability of the entire operation.
The farm’s 40 beds, each measuring 100 feet in length, required fresh compost application every time a row was turned over. Using traditional manual methods, each bed took approximately 45 minutes – or 30 hours per cycle – to spread compost properly.

The solution

Using the all-electric Amiga Compost Spreader supports the farm’s no-till, regenerative practices by applying compost efficiently and precisely across all 40 vegetable beds, orchard rows, and newly seeded pasture. From direct loading of amendments into the hopper to solar-powered operation, it has cut compost application time from one week to one day. Not only has physical strain and risk of injury been significantly reduced, the team is freed up to spend time on higher-value practices. Even better, the farm is run entirely on on-site solar, meaning zero fuel or electric costs.

The results

  • 78% labor saved in compost application.
  • 4.3x productivity gain vs. manual methods.
  • Zero operating costs by using on-site solar energy with no fuel or electric expenses.
“We had the Amiga Compost Spreader before we had a tractor. That’s how essential it was.”
● Zoe, Owner and Farmer, Full Circle Farms
“The Amiga is just easier. Easier to control. Easier to turn. Easier on the ears and on my body. It’s also multifunctional and that’s huge for a small farm.”
● Zoe, Owner and Farmer, Full Circle Farms

How they did it

Full Circle Farm is run by a husband and wife team who left careers in tech and science to grow nutrient-rich food and regenerate the land. With Jeff’s background in software and Zoe’s PhD in microbiology, they’re using smart tools—like moisture sensors, automated animal systems, and the Amiga Compost Spreader—to reduce labor and maximize sustainability. The all-electric Amiga transformed compost spreading from a multi-person, backbreaking job into a solo task done in about an hour. Beyond compost, it hauls, tows chicken tractors, and applies amendments and seed—replacing bulky, fossil-fueled equipment and powering a regenerative system run by a single operator. For Full Circle, it’s not just about saving time—it’s about closing nutrient loops and farming in harmony with the land.
